What makes them so special that we should know them?
What makes them so insignificant that we should ignore them?
I don't know, that's why I asked.

Leve Feyenoord 1!

You simply learn a lot more about things closer to home. That's what interests us more. Sure, we all learn about the Greeks, Egyptians, Romans, World Wars, etc. But I doubt all of you guys know about William of Orange and his entire story and the 80 years war. Just like how I had to get all of my information on the American Civil War and Revolutionary War from Internet. We were never taught about any of that in history class. I'm sure in China they deal a whole lot with all those dynaties and wars and emperors, and we don't spend any time on them. Just a bias about where you live.

Most Africans in Africa learn about African Figures

And if it makes you feel better, America's history education when it comes to European history is terrible too, kinda too simplistic and relies too much on pop history .
